LILLIAN AHENKAN

SHE IS A BOSS WOMAN. FOREVER THE TALK OF THE TOWN. SHE'S STRONG, SHE'S EXTRA AND SHE'S FABULOUS. THERE IS NO ONE LIKE HER AND NO ONE WILL EVER BE.

Flex! Describe yourself in one sentence…
Mostly a lot but rarely too much.

You’re an incredible self-development writer, MTV presenter, DJ and beauty influencer and we absolutely adore you!  Where did you learn to be such a hustler?
I'm not sure how much of it was learned versus how much of it was a tool of preservation. I wanted so badly to live a life like the ones that I consumed via social media, and to do that I mimicked the stories I saw. The ones that were so ingrained in "rising and grinding" and hustling.

You encourage so many people to be their most fabulous self (thank you for the daily inspiration your Instagram stories bring us!) Who or what is inspiring and motivating you right now?
Unpacking learned behaviour, exploring contradictions and thinking about what the ideal Future Me would be like. I'm exploring the idea of being my best self, and really trying to understand what that looks like and it excites me!

Your makeup looks and outfits are always literal fire and we are obsessed! Where does the inspiration for your style come from?
I wish I had a specific point of reference, but I don't. That also doesn't mean that I'm feigning the idea of complete originality either. Instagram makes up a huge part of my reference point, and interestingly enough, letting myself be drawn to outfits and accessories that I actually like. Instead of being so skewed by trends or stigmas toward certain styles.

But also, Solange. Always Solange.

Self-love is a concept that you’ve preached from the beginning, and it’s definitely something that has taken the internet world by storm. What does this really mean to you and how do you practice it daily?
Investing in myself both economically, physically, spiritually and mentally. Taking the time to learn and understand myself. Reclaiming my time. Setting boundaries. Exploring everything with the intent to improve myself and my outlook on the world.

You’re such a strong woman who isn’t afraid to be herself and speak the truth and we love you for it! Does it get hard to be on such a public platform and how do you lift yourself up if you’re having a bad day?
Bad days are not a concept that I like to entertain – bad scenarios, conversations, interactions, then yes absolutely. I'm pragmatic at heart, so I always try to unpack what is actually bothering me and "fix it". If that's not working, then I allow myself to wallow, Netflix, snack and get through it.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learnt in getting to where you are now?
When you know better you do better. You're never going to be the best at something the first time you do it, so that should be incentive to keep trying EVERYTHING.

Do you have any advice that you would give to baby Lillian?
It's okay to aspire for greatness. It's okay to want more.

What’s next for Flex?!
I'm releasing a print book with a publisher in the next year which is exciting. More screen-time, more podcasts, more growth and more learning.

Thank you for always supporting us & wearing our jewels like no other! What are your three Mountain and Moon ‘must-have’ pieces right now?
