MM MUSE | KIMBERLEY

KIMBERLEY FERNANDEZ

Meeting Kim was so exciting for us as we have followed her gorgeous face for so long, we can honestly say we had a little fangirl moment! Kim is young, fresh & talented, part of the new guard in our home city making fun & creative moves. But what's the most refreshing is how incredibly humble & sweet she is, a warm & inviting ray of sunshine that really speaks to the exact type of woman that we design Mountain & Moon for. We see BIG things happening in the world for Kim, so watch this space...

Hey Kim! For those that don't know you, can you tell us who you are and what you do?

Hiiiiiii, I am Kimberley Fernandez (@kimboclat) I’m a visual artist from Perth who specialises in collage. In terms of what do I do, art is my main squeeze, but I’m also a writer for an entertainment website and have a lot of side projects in the mix. This year I curated a Movie Club, which is a book club but for films/film lovers.

What's your sign baby?

Capricorn!

We adore your art you talented woman! Have you always been on the creative path? And how did your unique style come about?

Art has always been my thing, in school it was pretty much the only subject I actually payed attention to. I took two visual art classes in high school, and then got my certificate 4 and diploma in visual art after high school. I only started collaging about 4 years ago though. My ex boyfriend got me a fat vintage Playboy bible for my 18th birthday, as a guide to sketch female bodies. I never touched the book until I found it under my bed 4 years ago and randomly started cutting up the girls and rendering them into portraits of rappers. Before collaging I had always struggled to create my own unique style, but when I thought of this, I knew it had not been done before and I knew I was onto something special. When people first look at my art they don’t usually realise that there is nudity within, they usually double take before realising there is a lot of boobs and butt in these portraits, and I love that reaction! I also love being apart of normalising female nudity in art.

Living in our home town Perth, we are aware of how difficult it can be here to not just pursue your creative dreams but to thrive within them too. How have you found that experience and what advice do you have for other creative Queens trying to flourish out here?

I have found it extremely hard running with my creativity in Perth, but all I can say is , Don’t stop! Keep doing what you love and everything will eventually fall into place. Be your own biggest fan, and support yourself! Because the only person who is going to take you places, is you.

What inspires you on the daily?

Music inspires me. 9 times out of 10 I will be listening to a song, and it will inspire me to research that artist and start a portrait of them. I love making portraits of artists I actually love and respect. Music is such a huge part of my process, from making portraits of musicians to staying up till 3am finishing pieces with my music keeping me company.

We recently got together to shoot a stunning little studio story with you as our star & we just have to say, you are FLAWLESS. Please dish the glowing skin secrets, everyone deserves to know!

This sounds terrible, but I don’t have a skin care routine! I use “Origins Ginzing” Hydrating Energy Boosting Cream to moisturise every morning before I put on make up though? But I do NEED a proper skin care regime! Skincare gods slide into my dms pls.

Best advice from your mama?

Do as much as you can while you're young!

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now (BYE Pandemic), where would you go?

Paris will always have my heart, so I would love to go back to Paris! But my old yearning to visit America has definitely hit hard in the last few months. I have always wanted to take my artwork to somewhere like LA, as I feel there is a huge audience over there for my artwork. I would also love to go to Brazil!

We believe in manifesting... Any 2021 goals or dreams you want to say out loud?

Welllllllll I have already started working on my second solo art exhibition, and all I can say is that we are combining an art show with a rave… so expect big things!

We are high key obsessed with you in our jewels <3 What are your favourite MM styles?

I am obsessed with all the new blue tones, so the Dina Earrings are definitely my new favourites! But I can't go past the classic Rosetta Necklace which is a staple in my every day outfits!
